The BBC has confirmed that the first three episodes of Planet Earth II have attracted more viewers in the age bracket 16 to 34 than popular talent show The X Factor on ITV.
Sir David Attenborough attributed the shows increasing success to rapid improvements in technology, with the use of remote cameras which has allowed viewers to see animals closer than ever in high definition, breathtaking environments.
As well as this, however, Attenborough suggested that viewers are simply "reconnecting with a planet whose beauty is blemished and whose health is failing." He believes that children are learning that their future is linked to that of the environment.
"I'm told that we are attracting a larger than normal number of younger viewers and apparently the music of Hans Zimmer in particular is striking a chord. That pleases me enormously," Attenborough added.
The new season of Planet Earth saw it's best ratings with the second episode, 'Mountains,' which accumulated a total of 1.8 million young viewers. The X Factor only had 1.4 million that week.

Many people took to Twitter to profess their joy over the news, and suggest that it's due to the fact that The X Factor has become a 'diabolical, artificial production,' and that 'people are finally opening their eyes.'
